window light

My unknown friend
Kept her light on all night.

Unable to sleep,
I pace up and down
The long hall,
Watching the street
Through the window,
Feeling she is watching
With me.

Now she is gone,
Her room dark.
And I could not even salute
Her passing.

For we are a people
Set about by demons,
Busily securing
A place for us
In this terrible history
Of the world.

I miss my friend.

  1. Thank you so much. I think maybe our posts reach out to people as well, steady and
often comforting. Glad you liked the poem!.

  2. Chapter nine. Had hoped for more but it’s been pushed to one side lately with other
    events. Thank you for asking!

They do. Even poems about grief and loss. Or perhaps, especially such poems for they evoke and express shared and universal feelings in new ways.
